Lee Sands, a leading consultant in government relations and international business development, has been in Asia for over 30 years. He is founder and Managing Director of Sierra Asia, a Chinese-based business firm specializing in corporate financing, strategic planning and market access for foreign and Chinese companies. From 1997-2004, Lee was a partner in a major US law firm and helped them build a market access consulting company with offices in Beijing and Shanghai. Throughout most of the 1990s, Lee served as Chief U.S. Trade Negotiator with China as the Assistant US Trade Representative for Japan and China in the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), where he negotiated and oversaw implementation of trade agreements including intellectual property rights, market access and China¡¯s accession to the WTO. During that period, he led the formulation of United States trade policy, managed complex negotiations and oversaw compliance related to intellectual property rights, telecommunications, insurance and other sectors with China, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Mongolia. He received the USTR¡¯s distinguished negotiating award for his work. From 1986-88 he served at the US Embassy in Beijing in the Economics Section where he reported on developments in China and was again honored for his work. He received a degree in Asian Studies from City College of New York, a Masters of Philosophy in History from Yale University and a Master of Arts in Korean and Chinese Language and History from Harvard University. |
