News report
Since it joined the China Broadway Network, Hangzhou Theatre began to bustle about, for it knows that the box office of Anna and the King, the first Broadway musical put on in Hangzhou after the Network was founded, would have a direct impact on long-term cooperation in the future.
¡°Although we have attracted sponsorship, we are still under great pressure. On April 11, we discussed in a meeting for a whole day, and solicited fund from our employees for the first time in our theatre¡¯s history¡±, said Ke Chaoping. He added, ¡°Every employee took out over ten thousand yuan. If we failed, every employee would lose money. However, even if that happens, we only lose some immediate interests. The most important thing is the cooperation in the future. The performing market in Hangzhou is sluggish. Maybe, the incoming Broadway will activate this market. Otherwise, the so-called ¡°rich performing resources¡± will be meaningless. Fortunately, the recruitment of little actors and actresses in the show Anna and the King attracted a great number of people. Ke Chaoping said, ¡°1,200 kids registered. American staff will interview them in 3 days, starting from yesterday. Children and parents make the whole theatre bustling. If that goes well, we want to make a long-term plan: ask American staff to station in Hangzhou, open a training class, and set up a marketing team. Some international travel agencies have contacted us. We can even organize children to visit and perform in the Broadway in the future.¡±
