Broadway¡¯s Old Trick, Hangzhou Kids¡¯ New Stage
For many performers, standing on the stage of Broadway is a dream beyond their reach. What makes Broadway unique is that it¡¯s good at catching the eyes of audience and creating an exciting atmosphere: excitement on the stage and interaction off the stage. This is Broadway¡¯s old trick of market promotion.
Today, Hangzhou kids have a good fortune to realize this dream out of reach. During the May Day holiday, the classic Broadway musical The King and I (also known as Anna and the King) which has been popular for 56 years will be performed in Hangzhou Theater three times in a row. The ¡°king¡± today issued an order to search for 7 little princes and princesses in Hangzhou who will appear along with the ¡°king¡± on the stage of the classic Broadway musical The King and I.
It is reported that China Mobile Group Zhejiang Co., Ltd. and Hangzhou Theater will jointly hold the ¡°Broadway and Me¡± Child Stars Selective Trial targeting at young boys and girls from 5 to 11 years old. The organizer said that since the whole play will be performed in English, the ¡°little princes and princesses¡± had better master English to some extents. However, the king¡¯s 7 children do not have to talk in the play. All they¡¯ve got to do is to sing some English songs. Therefore, language should not be an obstacle for these young performers. All those who are active, confident and fond of performance are brilliant Broadway ¡°performers¡±. After the performance, the ¡°king¡± will confer performance certificates to all the young performers.
The whole selective trial consists of preliminary selection and final selection. Teachers from US and Chinese art experts will be invited to the contest as judges and conduct the interview. The judging panel will select the final performers according to children¡¯s comprehensive qualities such as individual temperament, singing, dancing and language ability. 80 children will go through to the final selection and receive ¡°Broadway-style¡± intensive training on English, dancing and performance. Therefore, the organizer specially emphasized that parents who have enrolled in the ¡°Broadway and Me¡± Child Stars Selective Trial must make sure that their children have time to participate in the training during the final selection.
