On July 3, 2007 the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Mr. Ding Wei, met with representatives from Nederlander Worldwide Entertaiment and Nederlander New Century Broadway International Theater Management company, to discuss the joint-venture and soon to be presenter of NNC's performance season.
Vice Minister Ding first praised the Nederlander's international impact, their perspicacity in reaching out to the Chinese market and approved of their plan to partner with Madame Chen Jixin, who has a good deal of industry experience and insight, when they enter the Chinese market. Vice Minister Ding also expressed his extreme admiration for the JVC's foreign program exchange, to bring American performances to China while also developing the idea to export Chinese shows to the U.S.
Vice Minister Ding summed up the Nederlander's value to China in two ways: 1) They would bring international business experience and networks and 2) bring cultural operations and management experience. From the management side, the Nederlanders could act as teacher to the Chinese. The Chinese talk in terms of feelings and trust, once the two sides establish mutual trust and emotional ties, then they will have laid the key foundation for the smooth development of future projects. Faced with China's huge market, Nederlander's guarenteed reputation will certainly enable them to achieve success.
To the Nederlander representatives he recommended acrobatic "Swan Lake," expressing anticipation for future cooperative prospects between the two sides, and delighted to see balanced and bidirectional Sino-American communication.
Robert Nederlander Jr. sincerely thanked Vice Minister Ding for his affirmation and support. Mr. Nederlander is particularly aware that the difference in business models is the greatest challenge for the joint venture, yet previous communication in the past between the two parties has created a foundation of trust, and he is certain that with the strategy of Sino-American cultural exchange, they can create bigger business opportunities. He hopes he can pass on his company's business expertise to China to achieve mutual success. But in view of being an industry trailblazer and under the watchful gaze of global mainstream society, Robert Nederlander Jr. admits that his company is under tremendous pressure, and hopes that the government will offer its support.
